Is monogamy good for society? | Louise Perry
Is polygamy good for society? Author Louise Perry explains. Louise Perry, author of "Women Aren't Human," explores the possibilities of polyamory as the next sexual minority rights movement. While some proponents argue for legal recognition of their relationships, Perry cautions against rejecting the monogamous model entirely. Despite the commonality of polygynous mating models in human history, Perry argues that monogamy has proven to be a more stable and peaceful system in society. She cites the "Cinderella effect," where households with multiple wives are more prone to conflict and stepparents are more likely to abuse their stepchildren. Perry also traces the historical roots of monogamy to ancient Rome, where sexual ethics were vastly different and cruel, and to the advent of Christianity, which introduced radical and revolutionary ideas about sexuality. Despite the downsides of Christian views on sexuality, Perry argues that their fundamental tenet of protecting the weak and restraining the strong remains relevant today. 0:00 Monogamy vs. polygyny 1:46 Monogamy: Better for society? 2:57 Ancient Rome & the Christian inflection point 4:24 “De-Christianizing” sexual ethics Read the video transcript ► https://bigthink.com/series/devils-advocate/monogamy/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=youtube_description ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- About Louise Perry: Louise Perry is a writer and campaigner based in London, UK. Louise Perry: Why is the sexual revolution failing women? | Spectator TV
Louise Perry is a journalist, campaigner and author of The Case Against the Sexual Revolution. It offers a new guide to sex in the 21st century – rather than herald sex positivity as a good thing for women, she argues it has had negative consequences. Her work has been published in multiple news outlets including The Spectator, Daily Mail and the New Statesman. As a campaigner, Louise began her career working in a rape crisis centre and most recently, co-founded the think tank, The Other Half, a non-partisan organisation that champions the voices of women and families not heard in Westminster. On the podcast, Louise talks to Katy about her upbringing in a London-based Guardian read-y household; how working in a rape crisis centre solidified her views on the importance of women-only spaces; and why progressives are wrong about the sexual revolution. // SUBSCRIBE TO THE SPECTATOR Get 12 issues for £12, plus a free £20 Amazon voucher https://www.spectator.co.uk/tvoffer // FOLLOW US https://www.twitter.com/spectator https://www.facebook.com/OfficialSpectator https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-spectator https://www.instagram.com/spectator1828 Theme song written and performed by Jon Barker © 2020 Jonathan Stewart Barker Publisher Jonathan Stewart Barker 100%, administered by prsformusic.com Recording © 2020 Jonathan Stewart Barker 100%, administered by ppl.com

The Dark Side Of Casual Relationships - Louise Perry | Modern Wisdom Podcast 492
Louise Perry is a writer, Press Officer for the campaign group We Can’t Consent To This and an author. 50 years ago there was a dream of women being released from the patriarchal shackles of stringent sexual norms. They should be able to sleep around like men, talk about sex like men and decouple their emotions from their bodies like men. Except it didn't quite work out, and now Louise thinks that both men and women are in a bad spot. Expect to learn why trying to not catch feelings when sleeping with someone is very dangerous, how TikTok is encouraging young girls into rough sex, whether sex work is real work, why men's porn addictions are ruining their sex lives, how the washing machine is more useful than most feminists, whether inventing the pill was an error and much more...
